Expecting a hard hitting interview of anyone from WotC from ENWorld is like expecting an infant to win heavyweight champion of the world. What surprises me more is that WotC agreed to an interview at all. If anything, the interview makes the company like both incompetent and stupid, not to mention smug enough to believe that gamers will buy the latest line they're peddling.
The sad thing is that this interview says to me that we're now a couple of steps closer to D&D merely becoming a brand name Hasbro uses for any "fantasy" products they put out, not an RPG. The interview doesn't sound like the words of a man who's confident in his company's product and that's worrisome.
To me the Old School Renaissance is not about playing a particular set of rules in a particular way, the dungeon crawl. It is about going back to the roots of our hobby and seeing what we could do differently. What avenues were not explored because of the commercial and personal interests of the game designers of the time.

Pretty lame, it was. He didn't really answer a number of the questions. I don't see this placating anyone.

I think the worst part about this is that this interview comes right on the heels of the passing of one of D&D's creators.
