Into the Majestic Fantasy Realms: The Northern Marches pre-launch.

I'm excited to announce that my third Kickstarter launches on Wednesday, May 28th, just two weeks away! Click the link below to get notified when it goes live.

Into the Majestic Fantasy Realms: the Northern Marches

A Sandbox Fantasy Setting

What if your players could shape a world that remembers them?

From the frostbitten ruins of the Wild North to the magical storms of the Ring Islands, The Northern Marches is a massive sandbox setting built for classic fantasy play.

Created by Robert Conley, the author of Blackmarsh, How to Make a Fantasy Sandbox, and Points of Light, this 200-page hexcrawl expands Blackmarsh into the Northern Marches and briefly describes the larger world of the Majestic Fantasy Realms for the first time. With new lands, factions, mysteries, and rules for overland, sea, and underwater travel.

This Kickstarter will fund:

  • A 200-page guidebook
  • A travel and e
    ncounter system
  • 5 referee maps (12"x18")
  • 5 player maps (12”x 18”)
  • A Creative Commons SRD for open use.

Explore. Discover. Change the world!

Launching in two weeks on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025.

Best Supporting Actors for Old School Essentials

Douglas Cole, over at Gaming Ballistics, is in the last 24 hours of his latest Kickstarter campaign, "Best Supporting Actor". In the spirit of AD&D's Rogue Gallery, this compilation of NPCs is designed for use in your campaign for OSE or any classic D&D edition.

Best Supporting Actors for OSE

What sets Doug's work apart is his experience with SJ Games' The Fantasy Trip. TFT, both in the past and today, has a tradition of presenting interesting NPCs in a simple and easy-to-use format. With this Kickstarter, Doug applies his experience with TFT to one of the OSR's more popular systems, Old School Essentials.

You will be getting 172 distinct NPCs each with their own illustration

Additionally, you have the option of getting a set of cards with the illustrations and stats printed on each.

Appreciate any support you can give to Doug and his efforts

The Many Crypts of Lady Ingrade and Zine Quest #3

My good friend, Tim Shorts of Gothridge Manor is in his last three days of his kickstarter, an adventure zine called the Many Crypts of Lady Ingrade. Written for Old School Essential it is a series of adventures around the various crypts of Lady Ingrade. It also part of Zine Quest, an effort by Kickstarter to promote various types of RPG zines.

Tim has tapped me to do the maps. Here is a sample below.

It represents an evolution of my black and white style. I recently stumbled on a source for old screen tone, dry transfer sheets filled with patterns and symbol that were used prior to advent of illustration software and desktop publishing. I bought a few to fill in gaps in my collection and some of them are found in these maps. The ones below are scrubland, jungle, and tidal flats.

Hunters in Death the last 24 hours

I want to thank everybody for their show of support throughout the week. It meant a lot and I got to talk to a lot of new people. I regret it wasn't under better circumstances.

I will be talking in a later post about Bat in the Attic Games. But right now it is last day  of one of my best friends kickstarters.

Tim Shorts of Gothridge Manor and I have been gaming together since high school along with our friend Dwayne Gillingham. In recent years he has been publishing his ideas along with some kick ass maps.

Now Tim is taking a stab at a kickstarter by offering Hunters in Death, an old school hex crawl. It part of Kickstarter's zine quest 2 encouraging and promoting various zine authors.

Here is a summary of what it is about.
Hunters in Death is set in the Komor Forest. A place that's consumed civilizations and birthed abominations. Yet there is a single outpost, Hounds Head, that holds back the darkness. It's a beacon for adventurers. Silver and blood are promised. And delivered. Some adventurers return with sacks overflowing with coins and jewels, but most fertilize the forest with their blood.
I have adventured in the Komor Forest and it is an interesting place to explore. The zine itself is a good deal at $4 for the PDF and $8 for print + pdf. Hope you check it out.
