More fun with mapping

Playing around with a new color style. Finally figured out how to do shading with CorelDRAW. Basically convert the color shape into a bitmap and use the Gaussian Blur. Both found under the Bitmap menu of CorelDRAW. Great results but really bogs down the computer on large maps.

Also useful for setting off the symbols and text as you can see from the lair symbol in the middle and for giving the coast a white halo.

Finally playing with a new contour style for hills and mountains.

Still trying to figure out how to do shaded relief which would be the ultimate in my book. The problem is that doing shaded RIDGE lines is straight forward. However trying to do one side of a slope is about a 100 times slower to draw. If you look at shaded relief maps of relatively flat terrain you will see that most hills are really these big Us pointing downslope. Kinda like the contour line in Hexes 0516/0517 below. You can also see a good shaped relief system in the terrain mode of Google Maps.

I think I have a new color style to go along with the harn style that I developed a while back.

Very nice. You're not telling me you hand drew all those trees, are you?

Once when I made the initial texture. Even then I made about 5 different types of jungle trees and randomly pasted them over a 8.5 by 11 page.

I can't find a scan of original JG Jungle zipatone texture so I had to recreate.

So now using it is as easy applying any other texture.

I don't know if you know of this resource (or if I'm repeating myself) but the Cartographer's Guild forum (http://forum.cartographersguild.com/) is the #1 resource for RPG mapping, bar none. The people who frequent there, the tutorials and quality maps are stunning and it's one of the friendliest bunches of people I've found. I highly recommend it.

Yes I been there. I didn't use it much because I use CorelDRAW. Thanks for reminding me!
