From the Attic: Where are all the humans in Greyhawk?
Over on Hill Cantons,
ckutalik writes an interesting post on the very low population density of the World of Greyhawk.
To which I added that well it because there are many creatures that are sentient and capable of forming cultures. In fact over a 100. And therein lies a table.
For some reason back in the day I decided to categorize all the monsters in the Monster Manual, Fiend Folio, and Monster Manual II. I have a small blue 3 subject notebook filled with my lists. It is because of this project I know pretty much the number of sentient culture forming races in AD&D 1st.
I will eventually post the complete transcribed notebook but here are the two pages with the sentient races plus the scans of the original.

What about the Faerie races? Such as sprites, pixies, korreds etc.
An excellent point.
Also, I'd like to point out that the Flanaess -- which is only a portion of the continent of Oerik -- is the size of North America. That's a very big place.
Consider also, that we are dealing with people who are moving at 75 mph -- if they obey the law, faster if they don't.
Now, take away their automobiles, place them in the center of the U.S. and let them find out just how much "wilderness" the U.S. has.
Keep them from the highways and they could go for days without seeing another person.
Sometimes, our PCs have horses, sometimes they walk. That allows for a whole lot of "empty space."
;)
Rob, sorry that this is way off topic, but I came across your name while researching opcode for a 700a plasma table. could you contact me at terry@artisticiron.com? if you can spare a few minutes.
thanks
