Hero Games bizarrely did exactly the same with their 6th edition. It's weakness was always a lack of published game able material, so they gave people exactly what they didn't want... more rules. Of course the market spoke and they basically went bust. I was an avid TFT player/referee back in the day and just kept playing that until GURPS 3rd edition. Being a big jump in complexity, 3rd Edition didnt make much sense to me. So I sold my copy. A couple years ago I decided to give GURPS another try (partly because of reading about it on blogs like yours) and bought 4th ed. Man, talk about an uphill climb, I was overwhelmed (again), but I didn't give up. The way I have learned GURPS is I acquired a 2nd edition copy of GURPS and learned the basics from it. In my opinion the older versions (1st and 2nd ed.) did a much better job of teaching the potential referee/player the GURPS system than GURPS Lite. I get GURPS 4th now and although as referee I don't use all the options, I feel comfortable with the system.Fred Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01467142832291402411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5904133056957353312.post-50099895747072683152015-12-08T14:05:48.525-05:002015-12-08T14:05:48.525-05:00Would it be ethical to do a clone of GURPS 2E?Would it be ethical to do a clone of GURPS 2E?Cross Planeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00258583245202567276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5904133056957353312.post-71263399309281579842015-12-07T14:16:49.936-05:002015-12-07T14:16:49.936-05:00I totally agree... I never saw the 2nd edition (I started with the 3rd edition way back with a cover that looked like the 2nd). I'd love to see a list of the skills of the 2nd edition, and a reduced list of ads and dis's.

I also wish Steve Jackson would open it up like the OGL or an SRD. Man, there is so much I'd use it for with my personal hacks.

I've played with Heroes and Other Worlds for a fantasy approach, but again, I still hack the heck out of it to make it mine.

Anyway, very good post and promoted a lot of thought in my head. woðborahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18063323987268849437noreply@blogger.com
