Gone Reading

The latest in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dance with Dragons. So far it pretty good, I like the Tyrion chapters the best. The opening prologue is pretty interesting and I am sure many will mine it for ideas for their fantasy campaign. It is an interesting insight into what many gamers would consider a monster/villain point of view.

So great to get a new book. Personally, I can't wait for the next Wimpy Kid book.

Happy Reading :-)

I've loved GRRM ever since the first short of his I ever read, "Grey Alys", then "Sandkings", then "Dying of the Light", then the lean years of Tuf Voyaging. Then came "Game of Thrones" and I was blown out of my tiny little mind. But...
As the series progresses I just can't feel the love any more. Each one seems progressively more rushed, more 2nd draft. And his creative decision to go all mercilessly unrelentingly gritty and dark is increasingly looking to me to be a poor one. Killing Ned Stark halfway thru book 1 was an audacious stroke of genius. After 4 books of mowing down or grinding down almost every admirable POV character in the milieu, its just depressing & bleak & not fun any more. Who's left to root for? Sure Jaime is a glimmer of hope but its taking so damn long, ditto for Arya & Jon & Dany. It just looks like George has lost his way. And that is too sad for words.
